Pinehurst & Southern Pines, North Carolina c.1933 – Pictorial Map Poster

18 x 24"

A beautifully detailed reproduction of a rare pictorial map of Pinehurst and Southern Pines in North Carolina’s Sandhills, originally created around 1933 by Ethel B. Fowler of the Studio Workshop.

This richly illustrated map captures a bygone era when the region felt seamlessly connected—where one could golf or ride horseback from end to end. Hand-tinted scenes bring the landscape to life, with charming depictions of local buildings, figures, and daily activity woven throughout.

Unlike modern technical maps, this pictorial style blends geography with artistry. Landmarks are emphasized, perspectives shift playfully, and the result is both informative and visually engaging. These maps were created by skilled illustrators and represent a long-standing artistic tradition—part documentation, part storytelling.

Sourced from the Library of Congress, this piece offers a unique glimpse into the character and culture of the Pinehurst area during its early development as a sporting and leisure destination.

Perfect for golf enthusiasts, North Carolina history lovers, or anyone drawn to vintage cartography and design.
