St Andrews Scotland Poster – Old Course Swilcan Bridge Golf Art Print | Vintage
16 x 24"
With its deep blue sky and towering, sculptural clouds rolling over the epicenter of golf, this striking poster captures St. Andrews in all its grandeur.
Created by Folio 45 from their original photograph and rendered in a 1920s European travel poster style, the image blends timeless elegance with a sense of movement and atmosphere. It reflects not just the place itself, but the ebullience and reverence that St. Andrews inspires—where history, landscape, and sport converge like nowhere else.
St. Andrews may need no introduction—but here are a few details that add depth to the scene:
• The Swilcan Bridge, prominently featured, dates back at least 700 years. Originally built to help shepherds move livestock across the burn, it now stands as one of golf’s hallowed landmarks.
• The famous 18th green was once a graveyard. During its transformation, skulls were reportedly stacked along the windowsill of Forgan’s clubmaking shop.
• In the 18th century, the course nearly fell into ruin after being sold to two brothers who used the land for rabbit breeding. Years of conflict between golfers and the owners followed—until the golfers ultimately reclaimed it.
• For centuries, the 1st and 18th holes were often marshland. This was finally resolved in the late 19th century with the construction of the Bruce Embankment.
• Even royalty couldn’t resist its pull—Mary, Queen of Scots, an avid golfer, kept an apartment in St. Andrews.
“The Home of Golf” is more than a tagline—it’s a living history, captured here in a style that feels both nostalgic and enduring.
Printed on premium satin/matte blend (80# cover, 220 GSM), this piece offers rich color depth with a refined, low-glare finish—ideal for display in any setting.
